The 18th annual Stratford Summer Soccer Camp provides a great opportunity for children of all ages and skill levels to improve their technical ability, tactical awareness, and experience the joys of becoming a better player through hard work and commitment. The camp experience for the younger players will feature a combination of games, foot-skills exercises, and developmental drills in a fun, but structured environment. The older players will focus more on specific aspects of the game such as offensive and possessive dribbling, different types of passes and shots, principles of defending, 1v1, 2v2, and, of course, individual and team competitions. Camp staff will include former Division I college players, Stratford players and current Stratford coaches.

Have you ever heard of the magic hop? Did you know there are six different parts of your foot involved with kicking a ball? What is pressure-cover-balance? Can you explain the offside rule? What is the difference between 4-4-2 (sweeper-stopper) and 3-5-2? Most likely, you never played soccer growing up, but now your children can’t get enough of it. At this camp, you will learn the basic techniques associated with soccer: how to correctly execute a "push-pass," how to best manipulate the ball, as well as how to make some moves such as the "scissors," "cut-catch," or "Rivelinho." You will probably not leave this camp a soccer superstar; however, you will be better-equipped to coach your children in the back yard and to appreciate their play on the field. The first session will be dedicated to the technical aspects of the game, while the second session will focus on the tactical side of things (1v1 defending, styles of play, team formations, etc.). Select day camp counselors will be on hand to demonstrate everything, so you can just be a spectator if you want, but full participation is encouraged! Coach Jordan will direct both sessions. In his three years as Stratford head coach, Jordan has enjoyed success with the Varsity teams (two boys’ state championships and one girls’ state championship), but has recognized the importance of firm foundations! Coach Jordan wants to build up the grassroots support for Stratford Soccer, so come join the fun and enjoy a little piece of the success!
