U13 Girls Athena Team - Spring 2010

Our program (the 2009-2010 U13 girls) has been a work in progress since our girls began playing soccer.   Many of our girls began playing this wonderful game when they were five years old in the now defunct Middle Georgia Soccer Association’ micro soccer program.   The girls’ love for the game continued as they rose through the ranks of the Recreational Soccer Program.

The girls got their first taste of the Academy soccer program when Macon Soccer Club was established.  Our u10 program had 3 teams (this equates to 36 girls) that were committed to a higher level of play.  As the girls grew up and other things interested them, our numbers changed.  Our u11 and u12 years we dropped down to 25 girls.  This past year we moved up to the Athena level and earned the right to be in the B-division and we have one team with 16 girls.

The B-Division is no easy task to attain.  Our girls worked hard with two of the best trainers and coaches in the state over the years to get to this level.  Not only did the girls work hard to achieve this level of distinction, our parents did as well.  Without parental support, our girls would never have had the opportunities they earned.  Our parents are the backbone of our program.  We have considered all members of the team “our girls” and our program as an extension of our families.

Our program has received many accolades due to our girls’ level of play.  We have won many tournaments as a unit across Georgia.  We have been asked to assist the Georgia Soccer Association in clinics for coaches from around the state.  We serve as “ball girls” for the Mercer University Soccer team.  We recently went to Orlando, Florida to play in the National 3 v. 3 Soccer tournament.

As you can see from our picture, our girls come from all over the Middle Georgia Area, which speaks volumes for our program.  We have sixteen girls that represent nine different schools in Central Georgia.  Although they may be foes on the fields when they meet up with each other at a school game, they come right back together afterwards and are ready to take on their opponents for club soccer play.  It is not uncommon for our girls to hug each other after a game, text and congratulate each other and meet up after a game to “hangout” as teenage girls do.

Soccer is alive and kicking (no pun intended) for girls of all ages in the Middle Georgia area.  The Macon Soccer Club offers wonderful opportunities for girls of all ages.  Our team is proof that these opportunities are available.
